Company: Sponsorship of Orphans in Uganda Project (SOUP)
Summary: The SOUP is an initiative to help orphans in Uganda combat hunger, homelessness, and helplessness.
Brin Enterkin is currently a sophmore at Berry College. In 2009, she spent the summer in Uganda working with a microfinancing organization. While there she was struck by the number of Ugandan orphans and came back to Berry vowing to do something to help them.
Brin founded the SOUP (The Sponsorship of Orphans in Uganda Project) in Fall of 2009. This organization hopes to help Ugandan orphans by providing basic needs such as food, medical care, education, shelter, and clothing. These children live in dire poverty and are dying daily from malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases. Most of their parents have died from AIDS, which is a huge possibility for their fate as well. Our greatest desire is to give these children an opportunity for a normal childhood filled with laughter, joy, health, education and full bellies.
More than 400 people participated in the first annual SOUP-off raising more than $2000 to help Ugandan orphans. To find out more check out http://theafricansoup.org/
